Keydets fall to Radford 4-1
In his post game comments, Coach Williams stated that he was proud of the team's play and effort, and he should be. The Keydets played one their best games of the season Saturday, executing well and providing plenty of excitement for the large crowd on hand. The Keydets got on the board first as Alexa Burnas hammerd this cross from Audrey Falconi.

Even
as Radford went on to score their goals, the Keydets continued to
apply pressure offensively, with help from the defense who did a
great job of feeding the ball up to start the attacks. It wasn't
until late in the second half that Radford could rest comfortably.

Appalachian State 4 – VMI 0
App State wins their fourth game in a row with their third consecutive shutout.
Eagles Spoil the Day : Winthrop 3 – VMI 0
As the game started out, it looked like the weather might spoil the day, but the spoiler turned out to be the Winthrop Eagles. They showed up with a very well balanced attack that kept the Keydet defense on their toes all day. Overall play on the field was fairly even although Winthrop did put together a strong charge midway through the second half. After they scored their final goal, VMI turned the tables and finished out the game with several good offensive chances.

Keydets Get Back On Track With 3-1 Win Over Delaware State
Audrey Falconi scores her first collegiate goal after goals by Megan Strand and Karen Bill. Team record improves to 3-2 (best start ever).
Some Days Ya Got It, Some Days Ya Don't: Manhattan 6 – VMI 0
Unfortunately, Sunday at Manhattan was one of those “Don't” days. No matter what the Keydets tried, it just didn't seem to work. It wasn't for lack of trying, the Keydets hustled and played aggressively for 90 minutes but just couldn't find a way to put the ball in the net or keep a very good Manhattan team from doing so. The win was the Jaspers 5th shutout victory in five games and after beating VMI, Manhattan received a ranking of 11th in the Northeast by SoccerBuzz.com.
The Keydets did manage to rally in the second half, maintaining control for a fair part of the half, creating quite a few scoring opportunities and taking a lot of shots. Unfortunately, the shots either missed the goal or went straight at the keeper. It was just one of those days.
Keydets Win Staten Island Shootout, Defeat Wagner 5-3
Karen Bill's four goals paced VMI to a hard fought victory Friday against Wagner College on Staten Island. Seems like every time you looked up, Karen was puttin the ball in the net; typical Karen, nothing fancy, just solid play, getting the job done, and getting the ball on goal. The same can be said for the entire team; nothing fancy, just solid play, getting the job done, and bringing home the win.
Possession wise, it was a very even game, with both teams moving the ball up and down the field quite well. The score was always close providing an exciting, action packed game. The defense saw plenty of action and JR recorded eight saves. The midfield did a good job in transition providing plenty of opportunities for the forwards. While VMI maintained the lead for the entire game, the Keydets were not resting easy until Megan Strand put them up by two with just over three minutes remaining in the match. Megan struck a real nice shot from far right on about the eighteen that went over the keeper but managed to drop just below the bar and into the upper back corner of the goal.
The setting for the game was surprisingly picturesque. The Wagner campus sits on top of a big hill providing an awesome view of the Hudson River (Bay?) and Manhattan. Add that to plenty of sun, a nice breeze, and a 5-3 victory, and you have one heckuva nice afternoon.

Karen
Bill heads in the third of her four goals.
VMI Tops Citadel 2-0
Alexa Bernas and Erin Squires score for the Keydets. Jessica Rheinlander gets the shutout. One picture says it all:

Wofford Tops VMI 3-0
The VMI Women's Soccer season kicked off Friday on a hot and sunny afternoon against a disciplined and talented Wofford College Team. The Terriers showed a great deal of poise in defeating the Keydets 3-0. VMI had some moments, but Wofford walked away with a well deserved win. The highlight for the VMI was the start of the second half. Down 1-0, the Keydets came out from the break firing and presented themselves with several scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, the Terriers continued to apply pressure and found the net two more times.

Keydets Survive the Heat and DC Ozone to Knock Off Howard 3-2(Scrimmage)
The VMI Women's soccer team showed signs of brilliance, (and signs of “only been practicing for a week”), as they battled to a 3-2 scrimmage victory over Howard University on a hot and muggy DC afternoon. The teams played three 30 minute periods, 10 vs 10 for the first two and 8 vs 8 for the final period. Both teams put together some good plays and provided plenty of excitement, and both teams also showed the signs of rust that should be expected in an early, preseason game.
Newcomers Chrissy Beach and Audrey Falconi proved that they will be a welcome addition to the offense. Beach opened up the scoring midway through the first period, taking a pass from Hatley Clifford and beating the keeper one on one. Falconi set up VMI's second goal with a slick move past a defender whose only hope to prevent a one on one was to foul Falconi. A penalty kick was awarded and Karen Bill punched it in. In the second period, Falconi's pass set up Megan Strand for a rocket shot that put the Keydets up 3-0. Howard's offense came to life in the final period, scoring two goals, but the Keydets held on to secure the win.
Newcomer, Jessica Robbins showed a very big presence on defense, and goalkeeper Kat Underwood made several nice saves as she split time with JR in goal. We didn't get a chance to see Alexi Staton play as she sat this one out with a foot injury.
