VMI Women's Soccer
2005 Game Summaries
Winthrop 4 – VMI 1
Women's season comes to an end with loss to Eagles. Anastasia Kovarik scores for the Keydets, her first career goal.
Birmingham-Southern 3 – VMI 1
Great play from the Keydet midfielders made this an exciting, action packed game for VMI fans as much of the action took place at our offensive end of the field. Karen Bill scored for VMI with an assist from Colleen Redmond. The Keydets fired off 15 shots and had numerous other close plays that kept the B-SC keepers busy all afternoon. Unfortunately, it was one of those days when the ball just didn't feel like going in the net.
It was Senior Day, the final home game for First Classmen Kathy Aldrich and Jo Wall. We were also treated to a special Halloween Halftime Game played by the younger fans in their costumes.

Keydets Scare UNC-Ashville before bowing in OT 3-2
VMI hung tough once again, this time against the top team in the conference. Colleen Redmond gave the Keydets the lead one third of the way into the first half heading in a cross from Hatley Clifford. VMI managed to keep UNC-A scoreless until the 80th minute, with great goaltending from Jessica Rheinlader and solid play from the defense. Offensively, The Keydets did equally well, cranking out seven shots on goal. UNC-A scored two quick goals in the 80th and 82nd minutes, but the Keydets were not done. With just two seconds left on the clock, Alexa Bernas headed in the equailzer to force overtime. Unfortunately, shortly into the overtime period, UNC-A scored on a high looping shot that sailed over JR for the goal.

Colleen Redmond scores VMI's first goal.
Keydets Fall at Liberty 2-1
While the final score was not in our favor, the Keydets proved once again that they are ready to compete in the Big South Conference. This game could have gone either way as the action and control of the game was evenly shared throughout the entire contest. Not to take anything away from Liberty; they scored one more goal and earned the victory. But it was a hard fought game with VMI playing aggressive soccer up till the final whistle. Alexa Bernas scores for VMI heading in a corner kick from Megan Strand. Bernas now has 14 goals for the season, a VMI record.
Colleen Redmond and Liberty's keeper “bumped” into each other several times. Here, the ref had to stop play for a couple minutes to allow both of them to get their wits back.

The “First” Season Continues with First Conference Victory
VMI gets it's first ever women's soccer Big South win, knocking off High Point 4-2. A quality win against a quality opponent.(High Point entered the contest 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.) Alexa Bernas gets two goals, Karen Bill gets one, and Colleen Redmond gets a goal and an assist. The defense apparently did their job quite well as Jessica Rheinlander only had to make three saves.
